When you’re busy—and most of us are these days, in both our home and work lives—it’s tough to find time during the day to fit in everything on your to-do list. Luckily, the Internet is available 24/7, allowing us to do research, purchase items and schedule appointments any time day or night.

If you’re planning a project that requires digging, one of the first steps you must take is to get utility lines on your property marked so you know where you can dig safely. As Illinois’ FREE communication service for locating underground utility lines, JULIE offers a variety of online tools to make it easy for you to submit a locate request when it’s most convenient for you.

Online Requests

If you’re a home or land owner who’s planting, building, adding, or fixing anything outdoors, you can use JUILE’s Online Request form to notify utility companies of your digging plans. All you need is your contact information, the address and county your excavation will occur in, and details about your project like the type of work you’ll be doing.

Similarly, you can use the same form if you’re a contractor with a single address to enter.

Remote Ticket Entry (RTE)

If you’re a professional and have multiple excavation projects underway, it’s often more efficient to use JULIE’s RTE service, which allows you to input multiple property locations at one time. This resource also gives you access to JULIE’s maps and drop-down menus to speed up the process. Plus, all your data—even previously submitted locate requests—is right at your fingertips.

Remark/Extend/View (REV)

Excavators have access to another online tool, REV, where you can view an existing locate request and ask for an extension or that your site be remarked. If you notice flags, paint or markings on the job site are no longer visible due to fading, weather, construction activity, or vandalism, you can submit a request to have utility companies come out to refresh their marks. If your project will take longer than 28 days, you can go online to extend your original locate request. This provides you with an additional 28 days to complete your excavation. If you simply need to view a current locate request, you can do so online as long as it was processed within the last 150 days. All you need is the JULIE DIG number, the phone number used on the original ticket, and your name.

Provided At Least 2 Business Days’ Notice

Regardless of which online tool you use…JULIE’s Online Request form, RTE or REV…you are always required by law to contact JULIE at least two business days before you intend to start digging.
